Our Story

603 Tau Sar Piah is a family owned bakery, cherished for its traditional pastries and delicate sweet treats. Started by passion, it has been over 20 years since we began on this journey. Still, one bite and you will know that we still take the same pride and dedication to creating our delectably flaky pastries and deliciously fluffy cakes.

Now, let us share with you our story.

Passion For Food

Our mother is passionate about food – she makes the perfect braised noodles and brews the most amazing soup, both of which are heirloom recipes handed down to her. Yet in her old age, she found a new joy for baking. She wasn’t professionally trained, so this was an arduous journey, but it was one driven by passion. This brings a style that is bounded by neither training nor convention – our mother experimented day and night to create our signature classics at 603 Tau Sar Piah.

Creative Experimentation

Today, we still pursue that continual experimentation. Before dawn, our team arrives to prepare the ovens and start with the day’s baking. At night and on weekends, we spend time on our recipes – working to create new items or to inject new ideas. We want to serve your traditional favourites, but with our own unique character and personality.

Humble Beginnings

We first opened at Rail Mall in 1995, but just as business was picking up, we had to relocate due to other plans by the mall management. We knew we wanted a place of our own, and fate brought us to this shophouse along Balester Road.

The Specialty

This row is famed for its tau sar piah, a flaky pastry with delicious fillings. We didn’t even offer this at that time, but so many of our customers asked for it and we took up the challenge. We now not just have the classic sweet and salty flavours, but have more than 10 different kinds, including our much-loved black sesame and yam tau sar piahs. We were new on this row, but we have now been here for almost 20 years.

Our Livelihood

We watch children grow up eating our treats, and it is our great joy to see them bring their own children to enjoy what we have. For us, 603 Tau Sar Piah is our family’s baby of love – everyone chips in to make it better. Be it our parents, spouse, or children, we all take great pride in what we serve.
